Characteristic	Body elongate, slightly compressed. Snout short. Operculum with 2 flat spines. A single dorsal fin with XIX-XX spines and 4-5 segmented rays, with barely incised fin membranes between the spines; anal fin with VII-VIII spines and 4-5 segmented rays; pectoral fins with 17 rays; pelvic fins with I spine and 2 segmented rays. One incomple lateral line, reaching behind pectoral fin. Body nearly all black, but a thin white line over the back from the tip of the snout and along the tips of the dorsal fin spines; dorsal, anal, pelvic and caudal fins with yellow margin; a white spot on base of pectoral fin.
habitats	Found in shallow wave-washed seaward reefs. Also in sheltered rubble reef slopes to at depthof 9 to 12m.
Distribution	Known only from southern Japan, Taiwan, and Philippines. It is found in southern Taiwanese waters.
Utility	No commercial value.
